This Radiant Space Heater Is Helping Me Stay Warm Through Frigid Wisconsin Winters

Yes, I’ve lived in Wisconsin for most of my life. And yes, the frigid cold weather we experience each winter still catches me off guard. As I’m writing this, we’re in the depths of January with wind chills reaching -40 degrees. Yikes!

I’ve tried all the hacks to heat up a cold room, and don’t even get me started on my collection of the best blankets. Even still, there are times I crave radiant heat—like the kind you get from the sun on a warm day.

Since a four-month-long vacation to a tropical island is out of the question, I’ve found a simpler Amazon solution. And the best part? It costs less than $100. Here’s everything you need to know about my new obsession: the Kismile radiant space heater.

This space heater does a great job of warming up people and pets in its path.

What is the Kismile radiant space heater?

The Kismile radiant space heater looks like a satellite dish. It has a coiled heating element in the center and a reflective surface that radiates the heat outward. It comes with two settings (low and high) and the ability to hold steady or oscillate for each. There’s also a timer setting that lets you set it and forget it for 30 to 180 minutes.

It plugs into a standard wall outlet and draws 800 watts. (Which is significantly less than the 1500 watts many of our other safe space heater picks use.)

Speaking of safety, the heater includes a tip-over switch and overheat protection. While I haven’t used either feature, it’s nice to know they’re built in for added peace of mind.

Why I Love It

My favorite part about this heater, hands-down, is that the heat doesn’t blow on you. As someone with allergies, I appreciate not having to worry about dust building up in an impossible-to-clean fan system. Plus, it truly does feel like sitting in the sun or next to a roaring fire. Within 10-15 minutes, I oftentimes find myself getting hot and needing to shed a sweater!

Other perks? The heater gets hot in less than a minute and is whisper-quiet. Aside from some light clicking noises as it oscillates, you can’t even hear that it’s on.

That said, this heater is best for heating people, not the entire room. Just like when a fire dies down, or the sun goes behind the clouds, the heat goes with it. I’m also slightly concerned with long-term quality. I’ve noticed zero issues in the two months I’ve been using the heater, but some of the plastic components do feel cheap, and other Amazon reviewers have reported a limited lifespan.

As always, be sure to follow space heater safety tips, including plugging it directly into the wall, keeping it a safe distance from flammable objects and turning it off when unattended.
