Appliance recalls may feel like a hassle, but you shouldn’t ignore them. As annoying as it may be to have to replace something integral to your daily life, ignoring the problem could be much, much worse. For example, it turns out the Paris Hilton mini fridges pose a fire hazard. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) released a brief explaining the problem, as well as which fridges are a danger and what to do if you own one of them.
Why Are These Paris Hilton Fridges Dangerous?
According to the USCPSC report, “the recalled mini fridges’ electrical switch can short circuit, causing it to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard.” To date, there have been 27 reports of these fridges causing fires (though no injuries have been reported to date). Per the report, “property damage has included damage to the unit and surrounding surfaces.” While there have been no injuries recorded so far, fire hazards are quite serious. Given the danger these pose, you should find out if yours is one of the recalled ones. If it is, you need to take the appropriate steps to protect yourself.
Which Paris Hilton Fridges Pose a Fire Hazard?
Per the USCPSC, “this recall involves the Paris Hilton Mini Beauty Fridge sold in a 4-liter model in pink, white, aqua and hot pink and in a 10-liter model in pink and white.” If you purchased one that was manufactured prior to August 2024, you’ll need to check your model and serial number. “A label with the model number and serial number is located on the back of the unit for the 4-liter model and on the bottom of the unit for the 10-liter model.”
Is There a Fix?
The USCPSC says that “consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Paris Hilton Mini Beauty Fridge [and] unplug the unit.” Once you’ve done that, you can register for the recall at Epoca’s website.
“To receive a refund,” the instructions say, “consumers will have to fill out the online form and submit three photographs.” The photos should consist of:
- the refrigerator’s door with the word “RECALL” written on it using a permanent marker
- the label on the unit showing the model number and serial number
- the cut, unplugged cord.
Once you’ve followed the instructions, you “should discard the recalled fridge according to local and state regulations.”
