Is Your Ryobi Mower a Fire Hazard? 200,000 Mowers Recalled

Ryobi lawnmower owners, listen up. A new recall has been issued for certain mower models due to a serious defect that could pose a fire risk. Reports of incidents, including minor burns, have already been filed.

Which Ryobi Lawnmowers Are Being Recalled?

This recall is for TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc.’s (TTI)Ryobi Brushless 21″ Cordless Walk-Behind Self-Propelled Multi-Blade Push Mowers. The recall impacts 217,500 mowers with the following model numbers:

  • RY401014BTLUS
  • RY401014US
  • RY401140US
  • RY401015BTLUS
  • RY401015US
  • RY401150US
  • RY401140US-Y
  • RY401150US-Y
  • RY401020
  • RY401200

These models have serial numbers KC21032D010001 – KC21327N999999. (The identifying info can be found on the mowers inside the green mower housing.)

Why Are These Ryobi Lawn Mowers Recalled?

The mowers are being recalled because of a faulty push-on connector on the inside of the powerhead that can overheat, posing a fire hazard. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s report on the recall, there have been 97 reports of mowers overheating while in use, five reports of fires and two minor burn injuries.

What To Do If My Ryobi Mower Is Recalled

If you have one of the recalled mowers, you should stop using it immediately. TTI will provide a free replacement mower to those impacted by the recall, so contact the company as soon as possible to find out how to disable the mower and receive your free replacement.
