This Tire Repair Kit from TireJect Could Save You from a Roadside Emergency

As the saying goes, three things are certain in life: death, taxes and flat tires. OK, that might not be the exact quote, but anyone who drives will eventually have one or more flat tires, which is why they should consider something that fixes those flats. TireJect is a family-owned company that focuses purely on tire repair, specializing in sealants that you inject into the tireTireJect. Get it?

TireJect is easy to install and is the only formula designed to permanently seal a tire.

TireJect Repair Tool Kit Features

Tools inside a repair kit

The TireJect Emergency Tire Repair Kit has two 10-ounce bags of tire sealant, a tire inflator kit with two 60-gram cartridges of CO2, a metal tire plug kit, a premium valve core tool and a tire pressure gauge. A handy pouch straps to your belt to hold the tools while you work, which beats setting them down on the pavement or dirt. The sealant included in the kit reviewed here is for off-road vehicles, including ATVs, UTVs, lawnmowers and other off-road tires.

However, the CO2 cartridges can be used on passenger vehicles, and the cartridges themselves have specific instructions by tire type. Furthermore, a variant of this kit has an electric tire inflator powered by a 12-volt (cigarette lighter) outlet or clamped to the terminals of a vehicle battery. We tested one of each.

How We Tested It

A person repairing a tyre outdoors

It’s harder than you think to find a punctured tire that someone hasn’t already repaired immediately. In fact, I couldn’t. What I did have was a son-in-law with a long-parked vehicle that had a seriously flat tire. After removing the tire and wheel from the vehicle, we tried inflating it with the CO2 cartridges. If you’re like most people, you’ve watched tires slowly fill back up with air from a compressor. The CO2 cartridges made it happen virtually instantaneously5 seconds, tops.

Electric tire inflator in a tire repair took kit

We let the air out and repeated the process, this time with the electric tire inflator. While it’s more gradual, it gives a digital readout that monitors the tire pressure as it inflates.

Checking the air in a tire through a tire pressure gauge

The CO2 cartridges are less precise, and the kit does come with a tire pressure gauge, but it only reads to 30 psi. Using that kit, I’d advise driving the car only as far as an air compressor where you can properly fill the tire and get an accurate reading. Still, in an emergency, it’ll get you rolling again, and that’s the point of the tire repair kit.

Pros

  • Every tire repair tool you might need in one handy carrying case
  • Incredibly fast re-inflation with CO2 cartridges
  • Precise re-inflation with electric tire inflator
  • Made in the USA

Cons

  • The kits and sealant refill packs are pricey
  • Tire pressure gauge only reads to 30 psi

FAQ

How long will TireJect last?

TireJect’s longevity depends on the severity of the damage. In some simple cases, like a straight-through nail requiring a simple plug, the repair can last thousands of miles. Any repaired tire should be checked more frequently than an undamaged tire to make sure it’s holding its pressure.

Is TireJect safe for TPMS?

The specific TireJect kit we tested and have linked to here is not for use with tire pressure monitoring systems. However, TireJect does make a tire sealant kit that is TPMS compatible.

What Other Reviewers Had to Say

People who’ve bought the TireJect Emergency Tire Repair Kit tend to rave about it.

Verified purchaser, Marc T., says it got him home after a sidewall cut. “I am very happy I bought this tire repair kit earlier this year. I was out riding my UTV today and had a flat tire caused by a sidewall cut, [and] I used the TireJect kit and was up and running again pretty quickly and it was more than enough to get me back [to] the truck and trailer. I bought this kit instead of going with a spare tire [and] have already bought more of the fluid to replace what I used today.”

In his five-star review, Merv says the sealant is amazing and easy to use. “This product is amazing. It poured right into my tire even though it was -8. It sealed the crack in my aluminum rim and the leaky tire bead after I hit a rock. Sealed everything and got me back to [the] trailer and it is still holding air.”

Why You Should Trust Us

I’ve been suffering the occasional indignity of a flat tire since 1972, the year I got my driver’s license. While I’ve tended to leave tire repair to the pros until now, I have (where shop rules allow) always been curious enough to watch them work, and the tools in the TireJect Emergency Tire Repair Kit look like the tools the pros use. I’d like to think I know a thing or two about tires, as I’m a car reviewer at Mike Hagerty Cars and an automotive journalist whose work has been featured on radio, TV, print and online since 1997.

Final Verdict

Between the hands-on experience re-inflating a tire and the near-universal raves of customers who’ve used the sealant, it’s hard to find fault with the TireJect Emergency Tire Repair Kit. It’s not inexpensive (especially the replacement sealant packs, which can be a fifth of the price of the kit), but it appears to be worthwhile insurance to have in your trunk.

One notemake sure you’re buying the correct kit. The ones we tested had sealant specifically intended for off-road vehicles (ATVs, UTVs, riding mowers and off-road tires). It’s not for use with tire pressure monitoring systems, and TireJect does make another kit specifically for passenger vehicles.
