Stuff We Love: The Skateplate Saw Guide

The Skateplate

When you don’t have a table saw, the rip guide for your circular saw can work in a pinch. The problem is, your typical guide will give only about six inches of cut capacity, and they’re not always that easy to use.

This Skateplate accessory is an innovative add-on that quickly attaches and detaches to your saw for a more capable rip guide function. The Skateplate and its guide both have rollers that decrease friction and make for smooth accurate cuts.

The standard Skateguide goes 12 inches wide, but we tried out the Skateguide “Zilla,” which cuts up to a 24-inch “swath.” It’s a bit of a reach to make cuts that wide, but the smooth Skateplate roller action makes it manageable. This is an ideal accessory for handling sheet goods when you’re working solo, much safer than handling a 4×8 sheet alone on a table saw.

The Skateplate and guide combo cost $80. The larger capacity Zilla guide is another $40. You can find them at skateplate.com or in some big box home stores.
