Bad news for Jeep enthusiasts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released a brief on the latest Chrysler recall. Hundreds of thousands of their Jeep vehicles pose a fire hazard. If you own a newer model, you may be in danger. Find out what the problem is, which Jeeps are faulty, and what you can do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
Why Is Chrysler Recalling Jeeps?
The NHTSA warns that the Jeeps in question pose a fire hazard and says that “a vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury.” The Jeeps in question have faulty high-voltage batteries that “may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.” Given that this can happen at any time, it’s best that you avoid driving your Jeep as much as possible. You should also park it as far from your home as you safely and conveniently can. Waking up to a house fire caused by your vehicle is not a pleasant experience.
Which Jeep Vehicles Pose a Fire Hazard?
According to the NHTSA brief, Chrysler is recalling over 320,000 vehicles, including the:
- 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe
- 2022 Grand Cherokee 4Xe
- 2023 Grand Cherokee 4Xe
- 2024 Grand Cherokee 4Xe
- 2025 Grand Cherokee 4Xe
- 2026 Grand Cherokee 4Xe
You may still be in danger even if you have already had your vehicle looked at for this problem. The NHTSA brief warns that “vehicles that were previously recalled for the same issue under NHTSA Recalls 24V720 and 23V787 will need to have the new remedy performed.” Starting on November 6, 2025, you can check your VIN number on the NHTSA site to confirm whether or not your Jeep poses a fire hazard.
How Will Chrysler Fix the Problem?
Chrysler is still working to figure out a solution. A first round of owner letters, explaining the problem, is set to be mailed in early December 2025. Chrysler will mail out a second round of letters once it has solidified a fix. In the interim, “owners are advised to park outside and away from structures.” Additionally, they should not “charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed.”
If you have further questions, you can reach Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is 68C and the NHTSA number is 25V741000.
