These are the Top 8 Home Trends to Watch for in 2021

Woven light fixture

Whimsical Handmade Lighting Fixtures

Artisanal lighting fixtures are a good way to personalize a home, and interior designers are betting to see more of them in homes. This woven piece makes a dramatic statement, adding interest to an otherwise minimalist room.

Wood look tile

Wood-Look Tile

Tile is durable and easy to care for, but the appearance of wood fits the earthy, natural trends of the moment. Wood-look tile will be big in 2021. It comes in realistic shades of brown and trendy grayscale hues.

Going Green

Homes will be greener this year. Throughout the entirety of the home, natural, recycled and sustainable materials will be big in 2021. Options like cork, bamboo, reclaimed wood and engineered wood are proving to be popular choices. Cork flooring, for instance, is non-toxic and taken from the bark of the cork oak tree. “These trees grow along the border of the Mediterranean Sea and can regenerate after every harvest. In fact, cork trees can live up to two centuries,” say the experts from Floor Critics. “The first harvest takes place when the tree is approximately 20 years old. Subsequent bark removal occurs every 9 years—up to 15 times per lifetime. Farmers take great care not to damage the tree by using a specially designed hatchet to strip the bark without disturbing the inner layer.”

Blue, orange and neutral mosaic tile in a bathroom

Mosaic Tile

Neutral and colorful patterned mosaic tiles are very on-trend right now. In 2021, a variety of shapes including subway tiles, small squares, herringbone, chevron and more will be seen everywhere. A peel and stick backsplash is one easy way to incorporate this trend.

“Many are opting for using the same white marble tile throughout the bathroom, but mixing up the shapes on the floors, walls and shower area,” notes flooring expert Debbie Gartner. “This keeps the space light and bright while providing visual intrigue by mixing up the shapes and textures.”

Overstuffed furniture

Comfort-First Furniture

After a year of more time at home than ever before, soft, luxurious furniture is trending. In 2021, overstuffed, curved furniture will take over the trending straight lines and angular pieces. From sofas and love seats to mirrors and frames, expect rounder, softer shapes.

Earth Tones

Expect earthy colors to reign supreme in 2019. Beige shades, sage green hues, natural wood tones and more will make for a cozy, soft, peaceful vibe.

Living-Room

New Nordic

This trend is a new play on the effortless Scandi look. Expect rooms offering gentle, muted color palettes, from furniture to accessories. A combination of buff leather and earthenware, and ash/bleached wood in colors like canvas white and sage will be big. There’s plenty hygge wrapped up in this eye-catching style.

Cottage kitchen

Cottagecore

This romantic, country life inspired home trend is an ode to grandma’s house. It involves all things soft, cozy and sustainable. The Cottagecore trend often features home-canned garden goodies, knit blankets, embroidery and other handmade decor elements.
