What’s in a nickname?
Every state has its own unique symbols, like state animal, state flower, and state motto. They all also have official names, called demonyms, that denote natives or inhabitants of that state. The U.S. Government Publishing Office recognizes the following demonyms as the official nicknames for residents of each U.S. state (even though sometimes, those residents would rather use an unofficial nickname).
